Who I am

BETSY OLDENBURG - _MG_4808.JPG

To be able to assist people in re-connecting with their natural state of ease, lightness and freedom of expression via The Trager® Approach has opened the door to tremendous joy and growth in my own life.

I became certified in The Trager Approach® in 1985, and became a Trager Tutor in 1991. It was my great fortune to have taken training with Dr. Trager a few times in my early years, and then several trainings over the years with many of our distinguished Trager Instructors. I attended the New Mexico Academy of Advanced Healing Arts in 1991, where I received massage certification, and studied other modalities. Between 1987 and 1993 I performed The Trager Approach in a chiropractic clinic and an orthopedic clinic, and since 1993 I have worked at Integrative Therapies pain clinic. I have maintained a private practice in Greensboro, North Carolina since 1987. Over the years I have accrued hundreds of hours of continuing education and training in a variety of holistic modalities. I am a licensed North Carolina Massage and Bodywork Therapist, LMBT License #330.

What is Trager

The Trager® Approach was developed and refined for over 50 years by Milton Trager, MD.

Based on the conviction that physical change follows a change of mind, Dr. Trager developed a unique and highly effective method that skillfully reaches the nervous system by addressing the body in singular ways.

Dr. Milton Trager recognized well before contemporary knowledge on neuroplasticity that new information introduced to areas in the unconscious mind, gently and with skill, activates positive neurological changes which improve movement patterns. He referred to his work as psychophysical integration.

Trager® Approach Practitioners work in a calm, cultivated, meditative state, what Dr. Trager called "hook-up." Using the language of touch and movement they promote sensory awareness and ease of movement. Trager® sessions include gentle bouncing, stroking, elongations and a variety of playful body movements received in a calming, pleasurable atmosphere. Cumulative in nature, this work promotes ease, physical mobility, and a renewed lasting awareness of agelessness.

A mental, emotional and physical education, Trager® sends clients into the world with the physical efficiency and coordination that leads to effortless movement. Milton Trager called this feeling a place beyond relaxation, a place of peace.

Massage

Custom massage to meet your needs

Whether you are seeking a soothing Swedish massage, or a more focused therapeutic session for specific aches or pains, we will begin with a short intake to clarify your medical history and your goals and expectations.

As well as calming the nervous system, hands on care can help reduce adhesions, de-activate trigger points and improve posture and joint function. We will gauge the pressure to your needs and preferences.

When presented with specific pains or injuries, we will look at where your body is off balance. Often when a muscle or group of muscles is in pain, it is related to tightness or imbalance in another part of your body. So in addition to massage of the painful area we will address other involved areas.

Bowen/Neural Touch

Reboot your System. . . Unlike massage or other manipulations that try to force a change, Bowen/Neural Touch simply resets your body to heal itself.

For complaints including muscular/skeletal conditions, neuro muscular disorders, digestive and respiratory issues, general stress and tension related issues, headaches, temporomandibular joint syndrome (TMJ), shingles and more.

A Bowen/Neural Touch treatment consists of a specific sequence of gentle manual rolling ‘moves’ done across superficial muscles, tendons and nerves. It is very restful and is performed through the clothing. Results are profound and lasting and usually apparent within two or three sessions (if not immediately).

Rates

In our culture we so easily lose sight of the depth and lasting effects of our life’s experiences on our physical and emotional health. It is the body’s preference to move onto the path of least resistance, and it is my passion to provide a safe and nurturing experience that supports the understanding and manifestation of such a path. It is my privilege to welcome my clients where they are and without judgement. This is where you can safely come home to yourself.

I have recently moved to Grand Rapids Michigan, and am taking a leave of absence from my practice untill sometime in 2022. Feel free to call me with questions.
